Why most people never make the top 10...
“Out of every one hundred men,
…ten shouldn’t even be there,
eighty are just targets,
nine are the real fighters,
and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle.
Ah, but the one, one is a warrior…”
Sage words
Or, perhaps, a sigh, not that bloke David Goggins again
The author (DG) is a polarising character
Some people love him, some people think he is a bit much
I think, like anyone in life, there are lessons you can learn from studying him,
what drives him, what made him the way he is, what you can apply to your own
life and experiences
And, say what you like about him;
To go from a home with an abusive and manipulative father - Gogins himself,
illiterate, cheating, lying, failing at school, 50kg overweight, working a dead end
job at 24 years old
To;
Navy seal, Army Ranger and frequently winning 100-250 mile ultramarathon
races - being known as one of the ‘hardest’ blokes on earth (to name a very few
of his accolades)
The quote at the start of this email is one that really resonates with me, from his
book
It does not matter whether you are in the first 10 or the next 80 - as Goggins
likely was in his youth
With hard work and ambition, you can become one of the 9
Or even,
The one.
The reality is, that very few people do the hard work required to enter the realms
of the 9, or the one
They point the finger and say its "easy for them", as I often do - or, “they must
have talent"
But they can become a top ten - with effort
I love reading autobiographies and watching documentaries of sports stars,
entrepreneurs, and anyone that has success in their chosen field - as for some
reason I look at successful people and assume they must be naturally
talented…
“easy for them”
That they have a gift, or a knack
But looking behind the scenes as these books / movies allow you to and you
see what it takes
Relenteless dedication
Relentless commitment
Honing the craft
Almost obsession
All to become the one
Elon Musk, Phil Knight, Christiano Ronaldo, LE Bron, Tiger Woods, Steve Jobs,
Ray Krok, David Beckam, Christian Bale, podcasters, a business leader, even
influencers on social media have done thousands of reparations (posts) to
become good or great in their craft…. to name but a few
Read and watch enough of these things and a common theme emerges
Hard work
With enough of that it is possible to go from the 90, into the 10
Creating long term wealth through property is hard
All of us start off in the “shouldn’t even be here” category
To go from ‘shouldn't even be here’ to a ‘warrior’ in terms of knowing what to do
and how to do it - is hard
But, just as David Goggins went from one of the 80 targets to the ‘one warrior’
You can too, if you wish, and if you are passionate enough to want to put in the
work
And maybe you don’t want to become the ‘one’, which is fair enough, become
the one in anything requires a singular focus that is too far out of the realms of
reality for most of us
But becoming top ten?
Making positive steps towards changing your future?
Improving your knowledge?
Setting your self up better?
We can all do that.
Thanks,
Callum
