Who cares, really....?
Who here has ridden a bike before?
Either human (leg) powered or motor powered?
For reference, I have done both (which qualifies me to talk about it?)
I look and feel a bit silly on a push bike, a motorbike a bit less so
The latter is quite scary, so being sold soon
If you have ridden a bike then you likely know that you don't stare at the ground in front of
you
Or you don’t stare off to the side and lose concentration
This is dangerous, more so on a high horsepower motorbike, where your eyes go, your
head follows, and as does your bike
If staring at the ground trying to anticipate every small bump, the small things rattle you,
can throw you off
If you look middle distance, 10-20 meters ahead (the big picture), you have a smoother ride
Less likely to crash, fall off, hit something or die (extreme case, sorry)
With property the exact same is true….
Don't get distracted looking to the side - at the new negative news articles
Don't stare at the floor or the small daily details - budgets, rumor, etc
Look at the big picture
And this is exactly why, in my opinion, you shouldn’t care about interest rates
Why?
Story;
Interest rates are now the same level that they were in 2023….
At this point in 2023 they were on the rise, around 3.5% to top out at 5.25%
I bought a property in mid 2023… at ‘peak’ interest rates… 6.9% on the mortgage for that
property (below) - to be precise;
Many people would not have bought that property, too concerned about savings GBP20-
50 per month on the interest rate - fair enough
But these are the same people that likely stare at the road in front of them on a bike
Here we are, 3 years later, and interest rates are back to where they were…
The property has gone up from GBP200k to GBP230k, a GBP30k gain, and I am in
discussion with my mortgage broker;
In order to pull 20- 30k out, and use it as a part deposit on another property
And, therein, lies the power of property
Not the bumps in the road, not whats happening on your peripheral vision, but the bigger
picture
Repeat this process again in another 3 years? Another property in the portfolio.
All from one good decision
Ignore the noise, create a plan, stick to it
