Mythbusters

Goldfish have a three-second memory… (Huh?)

The five-second rule

Slipping on a banana peel

Shooting fish in a barrel is easy

Myths, all of them!

Just like ‘head versus heart’.

One of my very own myths.

One that I am now starting to consider as ‘busted’.

I have always been of the belief that you cannot mix them.

A head purchase is a pure investment.

Do the numbers stack up?

Does it wash its face and pay itself off?

Does it move you towards your wealth-building goals?

A heart purchase?

Well, this is a purchase that makes your heart sing.

Rural and away from other people.

Near your favourite pub.

In your hometown.

On a secluded island in Asia.

It doesn’t matter if the numbers don’t stack up, as it makes you happy

“Never the twain shall meet,” I hear you cry.

Unless…

Well, unless they do.

Recently, I purchased a property in Phuket.

First, as a pure investment — as the numbers did and do stack up.

Think:

  • Yields of 12% plus

  • Growth of 9% per annum

  • Growing tourism

  • Infrastructure investment

  • Stable economy

  • Great healthcare

  • Flights from all four (?) corners of the world

  • A credible 5-star developer with a 30-year track record

It ticks all the boxes.

But slowly, as I visited to view the property and thought about my own plans and future, it dawned on me

that this may actually not be a head purchase…

…but a heart purchase.

I love Asia — always have and always will. It has been a dream of mine to own a property by the

beach.

Near good local food, good bars, easy travel for work, good schools for children, great gyms and training

facilities, and easy access to other island getaways.

Phuket ticks all of my heart boxes.

So, is it head, or heart?

I think it may be both. I think the myth may be busted.

Or perhaps not? As it was originally head… but just so happens to work the other way.

It may not be a heart purchase for you.

But that is exactly the point — everyone is different. We all have our own goals, aspirations, dreams.

And that is why you must plan based on what is important to you — we are all different.

The only thing that is not different for all of us is the fact that we need to build wealth to help us achieve

those dreams.

And that is where smart heart purchases come into play.

So, where is your ideal heart purchase?

I’d be interested to hear.

Think a friend would like this? Forward it their way.

Have a great weekend ahead,

Callum
